Sorghums
for Forages |
| High
Plains Brand offers our customers the opportunity
to
increase the
profitability of their operation not only with the
HP Brand Quality forages, but also with professional
technical
support.
Durability, productivity,
and forage quality are all characteristics bred in
HP Brand forages. The Brown midribbed genetic technology
can significantly alter the feed management program
of cattle operations. These types of Forage Sorghums and
Sorghum Sudangrasses from HP Brand deliver forages
quality comparable to alfalfa and corn at economical values.
Ten years ago when people
spoke about forage sorghum quality, grain to fodder
ratio was the buzz phrase. This is how quality was estimated
in both corn and forage sorghum. This was done because
the digestibility of the fodder was poor. The Brown
Midribbed genetics has changed this. Now we have to look at total
plan digestibility, not that of the components. When
we speak to most nutritionist what they want from silage is
a high level of digestible structural carbohydrates
(digestible fodder) not nonstructural carbohydrates (grain). This is
what we provide, a consistant level of highly digestible
structural carbohydrates. High sugar levels in the
BMR sorghums help generate the energy animals need for peak
performance. Cattle like the sweet taste, which increase
intake and improve feed efficiency. HP Brand is proud
to contribute to AMerican agriculture by offering these improved
genetics.

| HP 101 BMR - Forage Sorghum |
- Significantly lower stem lignin concentration
- Improved
digestibility equals milk production of
corn
- Requires 1/3 less water than corn
for same production
|
HP 101 BMR is a Brown
Midrib hybrid Forage Sorghum type. The lignin
content
of
the
stem has been dramatically reduced which
significantly improves digestibility by
40 percent over conventional forage sorghums.
This improvement in digestibility allows
HP 101 BMR to equal the milk production
of corn. The reduced lignin content of
the HP 101 BMR stems makes it more prone
to lodging than conventional forage sorghums.
Because of these weaker stems, HP 101 BMR
should be planted at the recommended rates
for your area and harvest should be done
on time. The water requirement is 1/3 less
than that required to produce an equivalent
amount of corn. This high water use efficiency
of HP 101 BMR makes it ideally suited where
water is a major yield-limiting factor.

| HP 1010 BMR - Forage Sorghum |
|
The
next generation of BMR Forage Sorghums, is
an male sterile plant, with no pollen
source nearby the HP 1010 will be sterile.
With no grain the plant does not cannibalize
the stalk.
This means it will have a higher energy content
than other BMR Hybrids. Improved standability
when compared to earlier BMR Hybrids. The lignin
content of the stem has been dramatically reduced
which significantly improves digestibility
by 40 percent over conventional forage sorghums.
This improvement in digestibility allows HP
1010
BMR to equal the milk production of corn. The
water requirement of HP 1010 BMR is 1/3 less
than that required to produce an equivalent
amount of corn. This high water use efficiency
of HP

is a major yield-limiting factor. |

| HP 200 BMR - Sorghum Sudangrass |
-
Significant
increase in palatability
-
Significant increase
in efficiency
-
Significant
increase in digestibility
- Flexible graze, hay,
silage
|
Exceptional
palatability and the addition of a Brown
Midrib gene has shown
marked reduction of lignin content in the
plant. Lignin is the component of the cell
walls that
is generally regarded as the primary factor
limiting the extent of forage fiber digestion.
This totally new hybrid has shown an 18.9%
average increase in feed value compared to
conventionals. It offers a premium summer
annual hybrid with the same agronomic characteristics
you will find in a conventional sorghum-sudangrass
hybrid such as excellent hay quality, heavy
pasturing, superior drought tolerance, and
a wide adaptability – plus the increased
utilization and efficiency you get from the
Brown Midrib gene. |

| HP 300 BMR PPS - Sorghum Sudangrass |
- Photoperiod sensitive
- Significant increase
in digestibility
- Significant increase in palatability
- Flexible
graze, hay, silage
- Wide harvest window
|
Exceptional
palatability and the addition of a Brown Midrib
gene has shown
marked reduction
of lignin content in the plant. Offers a premium
summer annual hybrid with the Photoperiod sensitive
trait. This trait gives you a wide window of
harvest and consistent quality over the entire
growing
season – plus the increased utilization
and efficiency you get from the Brown Midrib
gene.
This totally new hybrid has shown an 18% to 20%
average increase in feed value compared to conventionals
and offers an additional $418.00 dollars per
acre based on feed at $60.00 per ton. This double
stack
technology has elevated HP 300 BMR PPS as the
premier forage on the market. |

| HP 3030 DW BMR - Sorguhm Sudangrass |
- Significant increase in palatability
- Significant
increase in efficiency
- Rapid regrowth and recovery
- Flexible graze,

HP
3030 DW BMR has exceptional palatability and
digestibility.
The
addition of a Brown Midrib gene
has shown marked reduction of lignin content
in the plant. This new hybrid has shown an increase
in feed value compared to conventionals. The
ability
to quickly emerge, regrow and tolerate heat and
drought makes HP 3030 a durable product in many
different environments. It offers a premium summer
annual hybrid with similar agronomic characteristics
you will find in a conventional sorghum-sudangrass
hybrids such as excellent hay quality, heavy
pasturing, plus the increased utilization and

| HP Kane-n-Honey Sorghum Sudan Male Sterile |
-
Multipurpose
hybrid sterile sorghum
-
Exceptional forage
yield and quality
-
Very heat and drought
tolerant
-
Vigorous, medium height
with dense foliage
|
HP
Kane-n-Honey Sorghum Sudan has medium maturity
and is a sterile
hybrid. This cane-type
forage has lush green broad leaves and sugar
sweet stalks that livestock relish. The sterility
of
the Kane-n-Honey eliminates the hazards of volunteer
regrowth, however, nearby fertile sorghums can
pollinate Kane-N-Honey. A minimum isolation distance
of one mile is recommended to protect the sterility.
Stalk size can be varied with population, for
larger stalks use lower plant populations, and
for finer
stems use high seeding rates. |

Exceptional
forage yield and quality
-
Very heat and drought
tolerant
- Highly nutritious juicy
midrib
- Flexible graze, hay or silage
|
New
improved premium forage product selected for
its high
productivity, exceptional
sweetness and improved forage quality. The leaves
tend to be wider and longer than most conventional
sorghum-sudans on the market. The stems are fine,
sweet, very juicy and highly nutritious. This
combination promotes greater intake, improved
digestibility
and increased animal performance in beef and
dairy cows. Exceptional heat and drought stress
tolerance
very fast re-growth after cutting and improved
plant health and disease tolerance for optimum
forage production in a standard product. |
